At The 5th Avenue Theatre, we bring people together through shared artistic experiences. Research shows what many of us know firsthand: a high concentration of arts in a city leads to higher civic engagement and more social cohesion. Through the power of story and song, we create musicals that lift us up—together.

Through their sponsorship of our production of Bliss, the Boeing Company is not only supporting the development of a ground-breaking new musical, they are leaning into their commitment to support women and girls pursuing STEM fields. We invited them to share their passion for this musical with us.

The Boeing Company is thrilled to be a production sponsor of The 5th Avenue Theatre’s electrifying new musical Bliss, which takes the traditional princess fairy tale in an empowering new direction. Bliss is the story of four distinctive princesses who are passionate about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (S.T.E.M.) subjects and escape the castle walls and learn to defy society’s expectations to pursue their dreams. Together, they discover that chasing their bliss means leaving expectations behind.

And that’s what we embrace and support at Boeing—to provide opportunities for our employees to follow their dreams: to innovate, explore, and create a better future. This is especially true when it comes to the women who work and build their careers at Boeing.

Through a companywide commitment to programs that attract and retain female talent, and with community investments designed to educate and inspire the next generation of women scientists and engineers, Boeing actively takes steps to encourage women and girls to pursue S.T.E.M. careers.

Our commitment to empowering women is part of our larger strategy to attract and retain the best, diverse talent. At Boeing, female innovators find a community of like-minded individuals through mentorship opportunities and the Boeing Women Inspiring Leadership group, as well as through the company’s engagement in professional associations. Similar to the sisters in Bliss, women within Boeing find strength in connecting with and learning from each other.

Our commitment is clear. Over the past seven years, Boeing has contributed nearly $140 million towards community initiatives that have had a positive impact on nearly 5 million young women and girls around the world. In 2018 alone, Boeing partnered with more than 140 S.T.E.M. organizations and contributed over $36 million towards community initiatives that helped inspire an estimated 1.7 million young women in S.T.E.M..

Which is why we are here, feeling pretty “Bliss-ed out” about supporting a new musical that celebrates the curiosity and passion that so many young woman have about S.T.E.M.. We hope Bliss inspires its young audience members to reach for their dreams.

Special thanks to Bliss‘s production sponsors: the Boeing Company and Bank of America. Bliss is the recipient of a 2019 Edgerton Foundation New Play Award.
