Last week we introduced you to the members of The Secret Garden ensemble. Today, get a little more information about the principal characters in the show, many of whom are making their 5th Avenue debuts in this beautiful production!
Maya is making her 5th Avenue debut in The Secret Garden! She plays the role of Ayah, and was a member of the cast in D.C. Maya’s regional credits include In the Heights with Front Porch Theatricals, and she has performed in cabarets at 54 Below and Pittsburgh CLO. She’s also been seen on television in Chicago Justice and on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Maya is a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and a proud member of both Actors’ Equity and SAG-AFTRA.
Johann is making his 5th Avenue debut as Fakir! He’s been seen regionally in The Man Who Murdered Sherlock Holmes (Mercury Theatre), Madagascar (Marriott Lincolnshire), South Pacific (Ivoryton Playhouse) and Sweeney Todd (Porchlight Music Theatre). Johann has a BA in Theatre from Northwestern University.
Jason is making his 5th Avenue debut as Captain Albert Lennox! He also traveled to Seattle having been with the cast in D.C. Jason has been on Broadway in Les Misérables, and Off-Broadway in The Music Teacher, A.W.O.L. and As You Like It. He has been seen in the national tours of Les Misérables‘ 25th Anniversary Tour and Phantom of the Opera (Las Vegas), and regionally at Shakespeare Theatre Co., Sacramento Music Circus, Paper Mill Playhouse and North Shore Music Theater. Brittany is also making her 5th Avenue debut as Rose Lennox and the understudy for Lily. Regionally, she has been seen in The Secret Garden, A Little Night Music, 1776, Alice Adams, Man of La Mancha, Urinetown, Trouble in Tahiti, Romeo and Juliet, The Dining Room and five original musicals with the John F. Coleman Hunter was previously seen at The 5th as Kurt in The Sound of Music. He will be alternating the role of Colin Craven with Guthrie Greenwood Bettinger.
Guthrie Greenwood Bettinger
Guthrie is making his 5th Avenue debut, alternating the role of Colin Craven with Coleman Hunter. Previous roles include Oliver in Oliver! (Hi-Liners), Tobias in Sweeney Todd (At the Ridge) and Pugsley in The Addams Family (Kentridge HS).
Marianne made her 5th Avenue debut two seasons ago in Grease. She has been seen worldwide in tours across Europe and in Israel, and in the national tour of The Real Thing. Her regional theater credits include the American Repertory Theatre (founding member), NY Public Theatre, Arizona Theatre Co., Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, Rep. Theatre of St. Louis, La Jolla Playhouse, Playwrights’ Horizons, Guthrie, Goodman, George St. Playhouse. You may recognize Marianne from the multitude of local credits, including work with ACT, Seattle Rep, Book-It, Seattle Shakespeare Co, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Empty Space, Village and Strawberry Theatre Workshop. Marianne holds degrees from the University of Southern Maine (B.A.) and the Yale School of Drama (M.F.A.), as well as a certificate of Fiber Arts from UW.
Charlie is making his 5th Avenue debut as Dickon! He has been seen on Broadway in The Book of Mormon and The Bridges of Madison County (OBC). Other New York credits include Parade at Lincoln Center and Big Riverat City Center Encores!. Charlie has been seen regionally in The Secret Garden at Shakespeare Theatre Company, Lord of the Flies at Denver Center and SCKBSTD at Virginia Stage Company. Seán G. Griffin
Seán has been in an impressive 160 productions in 55 years. Here at The 5th he has been in Carousel, Elf, Aladdin, Mame, West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz, Yankee Doodle Dandy and My Fair Lady. Seán has appeared at all the professional theaters in Seattle, major repertory companies across the US and six Broadway productions. He has toured nationally and internationally, and has been a proud member of Actors’ Equity since 1968.
Daisy is making her 5th Avenue debut as Martha, but she started with this run of the production in DC. Even before that, Daisy became the youngest female winner of a Tony Award for her portrayal of Mary Lennox in the original Broadway production of The Secret Garden. Her other Broadway credits include Les Misérables and James Joyce’s The Dead, the latter of which she also did Off-Broadway. Her regional credits include Wit, Stoneface, The Wild Party (for which she won an L.A. Weekly Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical), Be Aggressive, On the Mountain and A View From The Bridge. You may have seen her in Ripe, Losing Isaiah and Judgment, or on Girls, The Mentalist, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, Numbers or The Unit. Bea is making her 5th Avenue debut as Mary Lennox! You may have seen her regionally in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Seattle Children’s Theatre, Shrek at Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre and Les Misérables at Village Theatre.
Josh is also making his 5th Ave debut as Dr. Neville Craven. Josh recently originated the role of John Newton in the Broadway World Premiere of Amazing Grace. He received a Tony Award nomination and a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. Josh spent two seasons at The Stratford Shakespeare Festival: Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Connie in Grapes of Wrath and Che in Evita, earning BroadwayWorld Awards for each. He has also been part of several national tours: he was Che in the national tour of Evita (BroadwayWorld Award), Marius in the national tour of Les Misérables and Tony in the 50th Anniversary Tour of West Side Story. Lizzie is making her 5th Avenue debut as Lily Craven. Lizzie was in the original cast of Bright Star (written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, which received a Tony nomination for Best Musical). Off-Broadway, Lizzie has been seen in A Christmas Story and The Most Happy Fella. She was in the national tours of The Addams Family and Little House on the Prairie. Regionally, Lizzie has been seen at the Kennedy Center, Portland Center Stage, Pioneer Theatre Company, North Shore Music Theater and Sacramento Music Circus. She has been seen in concerts as a soloist with the Southwest Florida Symphony and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Lizzie has a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan.
Tam is making his 5th Avenue debut as Archibald Craven. Tam has been on Broadway in The New Yorkers and Doctor Zhivago. UK credits include City of Angels, Les Misérables, Love Never Dies, Orange Red, Royal Hunt of the Sun, Love’s Labour’s Lost, East, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, As You Like It and Faustus. Tam was in Chess in Toronto, and has been seen on television in Sherlock, Blue Bloods and Walking the Dead. Find Tam online: @tammutu.
