Meet The Secret Garden Ensemble

Spring is coming to Seattle with our upcoming production of The Secret Garden, which begins performances next week! We have assembled a fantastic cast, with a wondrous mix of local favorites and some Broadway actors as well! Today, meet the phenomenal members of the ensemble.

Eric Ankrim

Eric will be a familiar face for 5th Avenue audiences. Eric has been seen this season in The Pajama Game and Man of La Mancha, and last season in Paint Your Wagon and as J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business… Other 5th Avenue credits include Jacques Brel…Carousel, First Date, Oklahoma!, RENT, Into the Woods, The Rocky Horror Show and Miss Saigon. Eric has also been seen on Broadway in First Date. Like many members of ensembles, Eric has a great number of roles to play: he is the soldier and footman, and is the understudy for the roles of Dickon, Lieutenant Wright and Fakir.

Jared Michael Brown

Jared accompanies several of our cast members from D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Company presentation of the show in this co-production. He will also be a familiar face to 5th Avenue audiences, having been seen in Paint Your WagonJasper in Deadland, Oliver!, Secondhand Lions, Pirates of Penzance and Oklahoma! Jared is Lieutenant Wright in this production, and is also the understudy for Neville.

Megan Chenovick

This is Megan’s second show at The 5th, having made her debut last season in The Sound of Music. Regional credits include Don Giovanni, Lucia di Lammermoor and Jerry Springer the Opera (for which she received a 2014 Gregory Award nomination). She was also in the World Premiere of In Sleep the World is Yours. Megan plays the role of Alice in The Secret Garden. Find out more about Megan at her website.

Rachel DeShon

Rachel is making her 5th Avenue debut! She is the winner of Marvin Hamlisch’s Search for a Star, and was a guest artist on his national tour. Highlights of her career include Boston POPS!, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Seattle Men’s Chorus, Pittsburgh Symphony, Singapore’s Esplanade Hall and Teatro ZinZanni. Rachel is playing the role of housemaid, and is the understudy for the roles of Martha, Alice and Rose.

Candice Donehoo

Candice is returning to The 5th after most recently being seen in The Sound of Music. Other 5th Avenue credits include Miss SaigonCarousel, Sweeney Todd and A Christmas Story. She’s been seen on Broadway in The King and I, and in national tours of The King and I and Jekyll and Hyde. Regionally, she has also performed with ACT, Alliance Theater, Indiana Repertory Theater and Ogunquit Playhouse. Candice is the nurse, and is understudying the roles of Mrs. Medlock, Claire and Ayah.

Mary Jo DuGaw

Mary Jo has been seen at The 5th previously in Most Happy Fella, Titanic and Music Man, among others. Some of her favorites at Village Theatre have been Mary Poppins; Les Misérables; and Kiss Me, Kate (for which she won a Footlight Award for Best Actress). Her Off-Broadway credits include Patience and The Red Mill. She has been a soloist with Seattle Symphony, NW Sinfonietta and Vancouver Symphony, and has been on television in Stephen King’s ABC mini-series Rose Red. Mary Jo is portraying both Claire and Mrs. Winthrop in the show. Find out more about Mary Jo at her website.

Matthew Posner

Matthew was seen most recently at The 5th in The Pajama Game. Other 5th Avenue credits include Damn Yankees, Pirates of Penzance, Secondhand Lions, Oliver, and A Christmas Story. He has been seen on tour and regionally in Camelot (Lancelot) and Les Mis (Valjean). Matthew has been on stage at Village in Show Boat, Fiddler and Billy Elliot. He also has a prominent voice-over career. Matthew is portraying Major Shelley and butler, as well as understudying the roles of Major Holmes, Ben and Captain Lennox.

Greg Stone

Greg joins Jared having come with the cast from the D.C. leg of this co-production. He was seen most recently in our production of The Pajama Game, but he has also been seen at The 5th in our productions of Titanic in ConcertThe Music Man and Pirates of Penzance. Greg has been on Broadway in Les Misérables, Oklahoma!, Urban Cowboy and The Pirate Queen, and Off-Broadway in Under the Bridge, Of Thee I Sing, Juno and Summer of 42. He’s also a graduate of the University of Washington! Greg is playing Major Holmes and is understudying the role of Archibald.

Nina Makino

Nina is making her 5th Avenue debut as the understudy for Mary Lennox! She most recently appeared in Book-It Theater’s production of Brothers K as Young Bet.
