Last season, our education programs served over 74,000 students throughout Washington State. On October 2, we hosted our first ever Educator’s Night. Because we know that educators are at the heart of student learning we wanted to celebrate the creativity, passion, and dedication they bring to their classrooms each day.
The purpose of Educator’s Night is to start to build a community of like-minded individuals who believe in the power of theater to change the lives of youth. Members of our education team were there to meet the teachers and answer questions about the programs we offer for Kindergarten-12th grade students throughout the state. It was a fun-filled evening of mingling, laughter, and celebration of theatre for youth. The educators who attended had the opportunity to work with their peers to write an impromptu poem during a “power poetry” exercise—some of them even shared their poems with the group! Here’s what they wrote:
Moving moods with
Is an Avenue to be heard
Theatre Education is
Afoot in theater education
An Arts Education Haiku
Exposing your soul
Here are some photos from the event. We had a lot of fun and we hope to host another event soon.
We also want to acknowledge the generous donors who support the 5th’s efforts to provide high-quality educational and arts programming to 74,000 youth throughout the Pacific Northwest each year. Our programs would not be possible without the support of many generous sponsors, including the following major sponsors:
The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation
The Herman and Faye Sarkowsky Charitable Foundation
The Boeing Company
Susie and Phil Stoller
