Member Events Provide a Unique Look Behind the Scenes!

All season-long our 5th Avenue Members have special access to events that bring them closer to the art on our stage. These opportunities allow our Members to explore productions beyond the performance, and literally bring them on stage, backstage and into the rehearsal process.

This week, Members joined us for an open rehearsal of Waterfall. This rehearsal, called a Wandelprobe, is the first time that the actors move to the stage (after weeks in our space downstairs, DAT 5). The actors come together with the orchestra to run through all of the musical numbers, working out the details of tempo and dynamics under the careful eye of the Music Directing. Meanwhile members of the crew checks sound cues and mic levels to get ready for the first performance the next day.

Members listen to Ian Eisendrath and Jonathan Tunick discuss the nuances of orchestrating Waterfall.

Depending on the rehearsal, Members sometimes are treated to special visits from members of the artistic team or even cast members. At our Tech Rehearsal for Grease, several families joined us, and one young patron, Maggie, was able to meet Kirsten deLohr Helland, who played Rizzo. Maggie wrote to us after the event and told us:

“Last night my dad and I went to the technical rehearsal and I actually learned a lot about theater. It was super fun and kind of silly too. We got to talk to the actress who played Rizzo a little bit and I even got to feel her dress!”

You never know what great experiences you might have behind-the-scenes as a Member. To learn more about membership and our events, visit us here.
